There are different types of necklaces including pendant necklaces, double strand necklaces, pearl necklaces, delicate single strand chain necklaces and heavy necklaces laden with jewels. Each necklace is beautiful in it’s own way and it’s most beautiful feature should be hilighted. For this purpose there are as many different types of necklace boxes as there are necklaces.
Because each necklace has a unique weight there are also necklace boxes made in different weights. Necklace boxes start at a very light weight and are made out of paper or card. The card is usually colored or decorative and includes a bow or ribbon to dress up the outside of the box. Paper and card boxes sometimes have a built in interior to display a pendant or charm but are sometimes instead lined with a fluffy cotton interior where the necklace rests. These light weight boxes are good for packaging delicate necklace strands and costume jewelry.
Heavier necklaces usually work better in a heavier box that opens on a hinge. These boxes can be covered in black leather to support the weight of the necklace and to give the outside of the box a nicer touch. The inside of neckalce boxes used to give fine jewelry usually have a softer and more deluxe feel. What the box is lined independs on the type of jewelry that sits inside the box. Some of the most common necklace box linings are suede, silk, and velvet.
The shape of the necklace box is usually square or rectanglular in shape though occasionally ovular necklace boxes are used to enhance the round shape of a necklace shape. If the necklace is a shorter double strand necklace it can be displayed in a necklace box that is horizontally longer to enhance the shape as well. Pendant necklace boxes are usually vertically longer to display the shape of the necklace as it would look when it is on a person.
Some necklaces like opera length drop necklaces come on a very long chain. Most necklace boxes display the front of the necklace in the box but the support for the necklace also lifts up to store the rest of the necklace chain. There are also necklace boxes that will store the longer chain underneath the support and will display only the necklace pendant or charm inside as to avoid crowding the interior of the box with superfluous chain.
